Your Passkeys will sync across all your iCloud-enabled devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, in addition to Mac (with end-to-end encryption). The two devices talk to each other, and with that, you’re logged in. Lily Hay Newman wrote a story earlier this year that gives an in-depth look at Passkeys’ mechanics, but here’s the gist: Instead of typing in a password when you land on a login page, you’ll be prompted on your Mac’s screen to pick up your iPhone or iPad and use either Touch ID or Face ID to verify your identity. Passkeys are stored on only your device and never a web server, so they are virtually immune to phishing attacks.
